Child of Destiny

Child of Destiny is our safe place for children and adults alike. We draw upon strong biblical principles to raise more than just moral or ethical foundations that children can fall back on as they grow into young people. At the core of all we aim to think, do, and say is love that is both growing and transformational - towards God, one another, the self, and all creation. We hope to grow in love in these four directions and let it be the motivation of our life and actions in the world. This is the identity that we are working towards forging in our children as well as the adults who teach and nurture them.

Our Vision: To be like Christ; To do as Christ (just as a Bride prepared, and the perfect mirror-image of her Bridegroom)

Our Name and Logo:

1.     The name “Child of Destiny” reflects the transformational change into Christ-likeness that we envision.

2.     The logo has two trees. The tree below is a sparse, almost dead tree. However, it is given a new heart that is like the Tree of Life above it.

3.     That new heart is renewed by the Word and the Spirit breathes life to transform the tree into the Tree of Love that is the perfect mirror-image of the Tree of Life.

4.     The Tree is abundantly fruitful as it goes through this transformation as long as the heart of perfect love towards God, self, others, and creation is guarded.

5.     The birds are hummingbirds – the smallest but fiercest of birds that do impossible things. They remind us of two things: faith as small as a mustard seed can accomplish great things, and never despise small beginnings.

Our Teaching:

We follow The Gospel Project which is a walk-through the entire Hebrew Testament and Greek Testament over a period of six years. We also intersperse the lessons with vital, repetitive themes that form the lesson format. These themes include Prayer, the Commandments, Sharing the Gospel, Fruit of the Spirit, God’s Attributes, the Bible and Bible Navigation. Once a month, we incorporate journaling where children learn to listen to God using the Five C’s (Cleanse, Clothe, Cover, Close, and Communicate).

Equipped to Serve and Form Community:

Children have avenues to serve through their gifts and talents. Those interested may approach us to play instruments for chosen worship songs, the doxology, birthdays, help with the SVL equipment, and lead in prayer and our pledge. We also have opportunities to serve the community including the elderly, the neighbourhood, ex-offenders, migrant workers, and others the Lord leads us to. We do not want to miss out on forming community for our children so they are welcome to come and play with their friends in the Multi-Purpose Hall at Level 3 before each session begins. We provide some games and we encourage interaction between children.
