1.         SERMON RECAP

(Visit  pmc.org.sg  to listen to the sermon and download a copy of the Powerpoint slides)

a.       How can we who are unrighteous (profoundly corrupted by sin) be justified  (declared righteous) before God?

·      God justifies by crediting to us a righteousness that only He can provide (Romans 3:21)

·      This righteousness from God can be appropriated through faith in Jesus (Romans 3:22)

·      Everyone needs Jesus because all have fallen short of God’s standard (Romans 3:23)

b.      Jesus did two things for those who believe in Him (Romans 3:24-25b)

·     He liberated them from slavery to sin by His blood (Redemption)

·     He averted God’s wrath from them by His death on the Cross (Propitiation)

c.       Why did God do this? (Romans 3:25b-26)

·      This was the only way that God could both Himself be just and at the same time be the One who justifies – John Stott.

“God gave Himself to save us from Himself !”

2.         LIVE IT OUT/ GOING DEEPER

a.       This week’s sermon closes an important section of Romans.  How has the study of Romans1-3 so far, reinforced your understanding of the Christian faith?

>  Take some time as a group to read Romans 1:1 – 3:26.  Take turns to read, perhaps 5 verses per person.

>   At the end of the whole reading, let each member share one thing that has impacted him/her in the book of Romans.

b.      The idea of justification, redemption and propitiation can be difficult to understand, especially for your pre-believing family and friends.

> As a group, suggest ideas or illustrations that could help people grasp these biblical truths better *

> Take some time to pray for those whom you can share these truths with in the coming week.

*Hint: Google “sermon illustrations for propitiation”
