Key Lessons
1. Suffering is a
given in this world.
2. Suffering with
Christ means…
a)
Suffering the sins of those who persecute us.
b)
Suffering in our own struggle for holiness.
c)
Suffering the effects of a decaying world.
3. All suffering is
temporal and is outshined by our future glory in God.
4. We should respond
with patience and count the cost as Christians.
Digging Deeper into
Scripture
Read Romans 8:12-30
Context – Romans 8 begins with the wonderful
proclamation that “[t]here is therefore now no condemnation for those who are
in Christ Jesus”. This is the conclusion of Paul’s argument that began in
chapter 6. We have been released from the total tyranny of sin and the just
verdict of the Law – all of which is achieved through the sacrificial death of
Jesus. Now in chapter 8, Paul explains how we are meant to carry out the
Christian life. What does it mean for us to live according to the Spirit? What
assurance can we have that we would be glorified with Christ?
1) According to Paul
in verses 12 to 17, what unique characteristics mark the Christian life?
2) Consider verses 18
to 25. What should motivate us to embrace suffering as Christians?
3) As we endure
suffering as Christians, what assurances does Paul give us in verses 26 to 30?
MAIN IDEA: If
possible, as a LG, draft a sentence that captures the main idea for Romans 8:12-30.
APPLICATION: How
can we live out Romans 8:12-30 in the coming week? How can we apply this Main
Idea to our lives?
